The Purbeck Classic Car Rally main sponsors are B F Crew, D Curtis Ltd, Hallmark Cars, M J White Ltd, and Wool & Bovington Motors. who for the past six years have elected to raise monies for Wareham Lions. We receive smaller sponsorships from over 30 local businesses and individuals enabled us to raise last year £6,000.
The Rally had two starts, with 26 Classic Cars beginning at the Silent Woman Pub Coldharbour and 24 Classic Cars at the Kings Arms Pub in Stoborough were coffee and teas were served free of charge by the publicans Denise and Richard and Damian and his staff. Last years route took the cars from Wareham towards Arne across the heath to Corfe Castle then onto Church Knowle climbing up the hill and passing Tyneham and experiencing the beautiful scenic views over the Jurassic Coast and dropping down to East Lulworth then onto West Lulworth, Winfrith Newburgh, West & East Chaldon and eventually taking the main road to Owermoigne and proceeding onto Crossways. The cars then went to Redbridge and Tadnoll and over the Winfrith Heath to the Seven Stars Pub at East Burton for a well deserved pit stop!! After refreshments the cars proceeded to Wool then to the venue at Hethfelton House were the other 100 corporate guests were waiting to see the cars arrive and park. Pimms was served to all participants who then walked around the beautiful grounds and admired the walled rose garden of Mike and Pam Jeffries who had allowed us to use their home for the second year running to host the event. At around 2 o’clock lunch was served in the marquee for 200 guests. Spit roasted pork was cooked by the Lions men and a selection of salads prepared and served by the Lions ladies.. The Lions men also manned the bar offering Isle of Purbeck Bitter and selection of wines as well as soft drinks, waiting on all tables ensuring that the guests enjoyed their desert which was homemade trifle followed by cheese and biscuits and port. Tea and Coffee was also available. After lunch we held a raffle and everyone had a chance of winning 30 prizes donated by local businesses. We then raffled the flower arrangements which raised a further £469. Tickets had been sold a cost of £5 to win a holiday apartment for one week in Tenerife courtesy of David and Gill Hamblin of U Drive this raised £675. We then auctioned a water colour of Wareham donated by Mike Jeffries the artist himself which raised £350, A day at Panorama Bay Motor Co the winning bidder being chauffer driven in a classic car to lunch followed by the use of a classic car in the afternoon ending with Champagne at Café Shore by courtesy of Sir Gary Davis this raised £200. A photographic book of the Jurassic Coast donated by Peter Sills raised £40 and finally two CDs signed by Status Quo donated by the Tank Museum raised £80. The day finished at around 6pm and the weather was outstanding as it has been for the last 6 years.. Mike and Pam Jeffries have very kindly agreed to let us hold the event again at Hethfelton
this year. This will be our 7th year and all proceeds once more will be for the “Wareham Lions PRESS COVERAGE
